Radar Vienna Awards Winners

Jury statement: The RADAR INTERNATIONAL MQ AiR AWARD goes to a film that shows intelligent and innovative editing skills. Using a scene from a black and white classic the director creates a new and compelling story, that engages and captivated all three jury members equally.

The award is donated by the Collecting Society of Audiovisual Authors – VdFS.

Jury statement: The award for the best Austrian film goes to a film that presents an extraordinary fusion of art, history, and philosophy. Through a unique investigative approach, the film literarily excavates the layers of paint treating them as both an archaeological site and a living, evolving work of art. The animation process activates these layers of spray paint, transforming the past into a sensory experience that is both visually arresting and intellectually stimulating.

The award is donated by the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

Jury statement: A film that shows animation mastery far beyond a student film and bravery to talk about a dark and deep subject. The jury award in the student competition goes to a film that captivates the viewer, transporting him into a world of fantasy in which shadows come to life and an empty room receives a strange and dark visitor.

Sielecki statement: In less than six minutes, magically surreal images are superimposed at a consistently rapid pace. The imaginative depiction of horses is striking. A soothing voice invites the viewer into a kind of meditation, but the rapid sequence of images contradicts this, suggesting a provocation or parody. 
A philosophical masterpiece by a young artist.

Special Mention: It is given by Lana Tanks Nikolic for a film that uses compelling storytelling, multiple visual styles and intimate cinematography, the film explores the tension, vulnerability, and strategy that occupy the minds in of competitors in something as harmless as a football match and transcends it into a reflection of political and social tension.

Special Mention – Veljko Popovic: For an eerie and disturbing film that deeply satisfied and excited me.

Special Mention – Kerdi Oengo: For giving a new meaning to the world’s oldest rhythm for words in a most sensual way of showing human body in correlation between time and space using only limited amount of shades amongst which the camera was able to capture the soul of the human being.
